Becky Hansen Joins Convention Data Services as Vice President of Event Services
Becky Hansen has joined CDS as the Vice President of Event Services. Becky, formerly Director of Client Implementation at Travel Planners, brings to the company close to 30 years of experience in the convention housing and IT industry. In her new position, she will oversee and be responsible for all areas related to registration, including: event services, onsite event staff, IT and network infrastructure. Welcome Becky!

Best Practices: Exhibitor Surveys    

One of our 2010 initiatives for Exhibitor Services is to get additional feedback from exhibitors to ensure our products and services are completely on track to help exhibitors achieve their show objectives and maximize their return.

As part of our ongoing efforts to support exhibitors and their lead retrieval goals, we have created a short post-show survey to not only make sure we are helping them obtain and use their leads, but also to ask questions about their satisfaction with our lead retrieval equipment and service.

If you currently conduct a post-show survey, we would like to ask if our five questions could be included so we do not duplicate efforts. Social Media Integration    

Convention Data Services gives you access to huge social media audiences using powerful integrations with the internet’s biggest social media sites—LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

New prospects are told about your event and invited to register from friends, colleagues and trusted contacts. This is an untapped market alerted to your event by people whose recommendations they seek out and trust. Finally, there is a solution that translates social media traffic into increased event attendance.

CDS’ social media package is comprehensive and includes integrations in registration, email confirmations and both attendee and exhibitor resource centers. A tracking report summarizes use and breaks down actions by individual registrant.

Product Showcase: X•Press TeleCheck    

The TeleCheck Internet Check Acceptance service provides a secure and easy way to accept check payments over the Internet. The real-time approval and payment process improves operational efficiencies, offers strong fraud protection, minimizes handling fees and reduces the number of returned checks.

TeleCheck services are available in CDS’ event registration and lead retrieval web sites. Attendees and exhibitors can pay for registration, lead retrieval and exhibitor marketing services directly from their checking accounts.

Product Showcase: X•Press Attendee Lists    

Attendee lists are a great way to ensure that exhibitors get maximum ROI from your event. Lists contain all the registrant information necessary to qualify the right audience and execute a successful marketing campaign.

Based on event management preferences, exhibitors can purchase lists from the prior year, pre-registration or the final registration list. Either the full list can be purchased, or exhibitors can select the demographic profile of the prospects in their list and pay on a per name basis. The lists are delivered electronically to either the exhibitor or to a bonded mail house retained by the exhibitor.

Product Update: Address Verification System (AVS)    

The Address Verification System (AVS) is used to verify the identity of credit card users. The system checks the billing address of the credit card user against the address on file at the credit card company. AVS is used worldwide by Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Not all card issuers participate, and at present, only a few countries support AVS on Visa and MasterCard.

From a client perspective, there are both pros and cons to using the AVS system.

An internet registration can be initiated by the registrant if they possess the card with the three (or four) digit Card Security Code (CSC) on the back of the card. The client and CDS are alerted to problems since the registration system prevents confirmations from being sent. A Problem Resolution Email is available that alerts registrants that there is an issue with the card that requires follow-up.

Clients cannot ask for the CSC to be written on hard copy registration forms because CDS stores these forms for a period of two years. CDS is not allowed by law to ask for, nor do we retain, the CSC number, so contacting a registrant regarding a declined transaction may mean a delay in completion of their registration.
